The Power of the Pause: Resting, Reassessing, and Changing Course

Updated: Jun 19

Life doesn’t always move in a straight line—at least not for me. I’ve had to learn (and continue learning) how to take a breath, let go of what no longer fits, and find the courage to shift directions. It’s not always easy, but I’ve come to deeply value the moments when I step back, pause, and give myself permission to be still.

There’s this quiet power in the pause. It’s in the in-between spaces where we begin to hear ourselves again. Where clarity rises, even if softly at first. Where we can ask ourselves not “What am I doing?” but “Who am I becoming?”

Life Doesn’t Come With a Map

I used to think I needed to have it all figured out. That if I just stuck to the plan, pushed through, or hustled harder, I’d arrive at some magical place where everything made sense. But the truth? I’m still figuring it out—daily. Life shifts, we evolve, and sometimes the only honest next step is to stop and reassess.

Over the years, I’ve learned to listen to the whispers: the burnout, the restlessness, the feeling that I’m out of alignment. And instead of ignoring them, I now try to honor those signals with space.

Because rest isn’t weakness.Changing your mind isn’t failure. And starting over is often the bravest thing you can do.

3 Ways to Be Present and Create Space for Yourself (and Others)

Here are a few things I return to when I need to pause and reset:

1. Create a Stillness Ritual

Whether it's five minutes of breathwork in the morning, a gentle yoga flow, journaling, or even sitting with a cup of tea in silence—create a pocket of stillness that belongs to you. It doesn’t need to be grand. It just needs to be intentional. These tiny moments can shift your entire day.

Ask yourself: “What does my body, my heart, or my spirit need right now?” And then listen.

2. Reassess What’s Actually Nourishing You

Sometimes we get so caught in doing that we forget to ask why we’re doing it. Pause and take inventory. What in your life gives you energy—and what drains it? What commitments still align with your values, and which ones no longer serve you? Making space isn’t just about saying no; it’s about choosing what truly matters.

Give yourself permission to evolve. You’re allowed to outgrow routines, relationships, and roles.

3. Hold Space, Without Losing Yourself

Creating space for others begins with being rooted in your own presence. When you’re grounded, you can better listen, support, and love without trying to fix or control. Be the calm in the storm. Sometimes just being with someone is more than enough.

Changing Course Isn’t a Sign of Failure

I’ve pivoted more times than I can count—personally, creatively, and professionally. Each time, I thought I was “starting over,” but really, I was deepening. Realigning. Learning to shift in a way that felt more honest. You don’t need permission to change your mind. And you’re allowed to rewrite your story as many times as you need.

We weren’t meant to live life on autopilot.

A Final Note

If you’re tired, rest.

If you’re unsure, pause.

If you’re called to change direction, be brave enough to shift.

There’s no perfect timeline. No single right path. Just you, your breath, your heart, and the quiet knowing that you’re allowed to begin again. In these moments, I turn inward in quiet meditation and allow clarity to set in.

Quote to Reflect On:

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”Anaïs Nin

Affirmation:“I honor the pauses, the pivots, and the quiet spaces in between. I trust that every step—seen and unseen—is part of my becoming.”

Always in gratitude and a little bit of magic,

Jonencia
